The luminous
sign on the roof of the car tells you whether the taxi is available.
If it is lit up, the taxi is available so hail it.
There are
three types of fares:
Rate A applies to journeys in Paris between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. except
for Sundays and public holidays.
Rate B applies to journeys in Paris between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. and
Sundays and public holidays. The rate also applies to daytime trips
to the suburbs (to airports).
Rate C applies to journeys to the suburbs (to airports) between
7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
There is a basic
charge and can be added supplements for: bulky packages, luggage,
pick up at station, 4th adult passenger, animals. French taxis,
when ordered, start counting from the moment they set out to fetch
you. It's always a better idea to find the number of the taxi stand
closest to you (see the list below).
If you are close
to a taxi rank where there are taxis, do not hail moving taxis.
The cars at the rank have priority over other taxis within a radius
of 50 meters. It is normal to give a tip of approximately 10% of
the fare. As a general rule, you need to pay the fare in cash. Some,
but not all taxis accept credit cards.
