Profile

The Hôtel du Quai Voltaire is located in the heart of Paris, directly overlooking the River Seine, across from the Louvre Museum and the Tuileries Garden, within walking distance of the antique shops and art galleries quarter. This is a totally French Hotel, comfortable and classical, where discretion and serenity get the top priority. The Director is lively, enthusiastic, and has a warm contact with the guests. It is her intention to make the visitors feel at home.

A super place to stay. The Hôtel du Quai Voltaire at the origin was an ancient abbey of the Theatins Order, destroyed in the 18th century during the French revolution. The structure remained unchanged and was purchased in 1850 by a French family who transformed it into a hotel. At that time the poet Charles Baudelaire became one of the guests from 1858 to 1860 and finished writing his famous "Les Fleurs du Mal".

Richard Wagner lived in the Hotel in 1861 and 1862 while completing his opera "The Master Singers of Nuremberg". During 1880's Oscar Wilde stayed several times and admired the splendid view of Paris and the Seine river. Camille Pissaro painted the famous "Pont Royal" and "Quais Malaquais" from one of the Hotel windows in 1903. These paintings are now in the Louvre Museum. Since, many famous names have stayed at the Hotel du Quai Voltaire, such as Sibelius, Rainer Maria Rilke, Pierre Reverdy, Ernst Hemingway, and more recently Philippe Soupault, Marcel Aymé, Antoine Blondin, Roger Vivier...

Today this small charmig 2 stars Hotel has preserved this special atmosphere and protected this place where the soul of these great men is still hovering. This Hotel full of story continues to inspire contemporary artists who love to come back to these places of creativity and inspiration: the writer John Irving, the painter Marcella Maltais, the poet Amrit Inamdar, the novelist Anna Rozen and so many others!
