Childebert the 1st founded the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in 543. The street was a lane till 1652, when it was named "Rue des Saints-Pères". Number 59 was built around 1750 as a mansion house ; it was known as the Hôtel de La Vallette, Parisian residence of the famous writer an poet Chateaubriand. It was transformed into an hotel for tourists in 1815; it is one of the oldest building of that type in Paris.

It belongs to the same family till 1922. Located in the core of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the hotel Pas de Calais has received very famous guests as J.P. Sartre, S. de Beauvoir, R. Gary, J. Gréco, Picabia, F. Leclerc, etc. who all contributed to make this district of Paris so famous. At the beginning of the 21st century, the spirit of Saint-Germain-des-Prés has evolved but remains a welcoming atmosphere. We wish all our guests a very pleasant stay.
