When we arrived, a room in our category (lower priced) so we were put in a better room on the front, with one bed, and told we would need to move the next night to the room with 2 beds. After 2 nights in the cheaper 2 bed room, facing an inside shaft, we asked if it would be possible to move back to the front of the building. The people next door smoked incessantly and it was irritating and very unhealthy. We did get moved to the front of the building for the rest of the stay, and we were not charged the higher price. So we found the staff to be accomodating and worked things out to our satisfaction. We are overall very happy with our accomodations. Unfortunately the only issue is the very thin walls in these old hotels. It was very noisy when people came in late, but I guess there isn't much that the hotel can do about that without adding great expense to the cost of the room.

Maybe reference the least expensive rooms face an inside shaft that makes it less cheery and creates more noise.

It's a great locally owned French hotel that is near the Latin Quarter and many of the key attractions in Paris, and it's in a great neighborhood. And contrary to many recommendations to take breakfast outside the hotel, we rather enjoyed the breakfast and the opportunity to have 2 or 3 cups of coffee, without having to pay each time.
