Hotel Lotti is located in an ancient Jacobin convent extending from rue Saint Honoré to the Tuileries gardens. A narrow passage separated the Jacobin convent from its neighbor convent the Feuillants. This passage has since become the Rue Castiglione. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the hotel's founder, Mr Lotti, was employed as maitre d'hotel at the Continental hotel (nowadays the Inter-Continental hotel). |
Among Mr Lotti's loyal clients was the duke of Westminster. The duke, being quite fond of Mr Lotti, urged him to open up his own hotel in the vicinity. He had in mind something smaller and more intimate yet equally luxurious. Thus, Mr Lotti, with the duke investing the necessary capital, combined the two smaller existing hotels to create the 123 room Lotti, which open its doors in 1910. |
The hotel enjoyed immediate success and was affectionately referred to as "the smallest of the grand hotels". Given Mr Lotti's international experience and the duke's acquaintance it is no wonder that the hotel's guest list included numerous members of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie. The Lotti, famous for its practice of discretion and allure, quickly became the Paris gathering place of the elite. |
The hotel enjoys a loyal clientele. As one American enthusiastically proclaims to anyone who will listen "my hotel in Paris is the Lotti and my room is number 304" the Lotti has been her home away from home for over twenty years. Former residents include royal personalities (princess Aga Khan, prince Albert, princess Paola of Belgium); international politicians (Winston Churchill, Robert Kennedy, Richard Nixon) and celebrated artists (Paul McCartney, Hergé, Michèle Morgan, Jean-Claude Brialy, Paul Newman, Jane Fonda, David Niven, Kirk Douglas, Jane Birken) just to name a few. |
Italy's number one hotel chain, Jolly Hotels, bought the Lotti in 1984. The Lotti's "savoir faire" has allowed it to preserve the mark of Parisian luxury hotels: elegance. In September 2004 the Lotti inaugurated a new wing introducing 44 additional guestrooms (raising the capacity to 167) as well as conference, meeting and banquet facilities adding a bit more sparkle to the four stars of this luxurious establishment. The hotel Lotti remains more than just a prestigious address. |
