| The Moulin Rouge was built in 1885 and five years later it was turned into a cabaret. Even though the Can Can was born in Montparnasse, at the Polka gardens on Grande-Chaumiere street, it was Toulouse Lautrec who would link this famous dance to the Moulin Rouge. Among the most famous dancers are Jane Avril and Yvette Guilbert. At a distance of 566 metres from the inn stands the Sacre Couer, a neo romanic-bizantine church which construction was begun in 1870 and was not finished till 1914. The Montmartre district has all sorts of romantic points to discover, such as Place du Tertre, the touristic centre of this neighbourhood in Paris, and the Montmartre Museum. |
